A takeaway offering people kebabs, pizzas, wraps and more in Newport has been crowned as one of the best kebab shops in the UK. Grill & Bake, located just outside the city centre on Corporation, claimed the top spot as the best kebab house in Wales at the British Kebab Awards 2024, which celebrates the efforts of local kebab takeaways and restaurants across the nation.

Other finalists in the category for the best kebab house in Wales included Istanbul Restaurant (Swansea), Keyif Restaurant (Penarth), Lezzet Turkish Kitchen (Cardiff), Marmaris (Blackwood), Pizza Choice (Cardiff), Pizza Time (Pembroke Dock),Yiannos Fish Bar Mynydd Isa (Mold) and three-time former winners Wales Kebab (Caerphilly) and Golden BBQ (Cardiff). The menu contains all of your kebab classics, from lamb donners to chicken shish - but you can also get creative with combination kebabs by selecting two fillings such as a lamb doner and chicken shish to spice things up a bit. Veggies won't be disappointed, as you can also get meat-free meals, including pizza, jacket potatoes and a range of sides, from garlic mushrooms, to chips and onion rings.

Speaking about winning the award, Grill & Bake chef Imamc Aksoy said: "People really love us, we are really really proud about the award and we are really proud to represent Wales." He explained why their menu was so good, he said: "We are doing everything homemade, we never buy anything ready made, everything we have made ourselves." Customers were already congratulating them on their award, he added,

In a positive review on TripAdvisor, one satisfied customer wrote: "I regularly order from here. The lady who takes the delivery orders is very friendly and professional. Food is always hot and very tasty and delivered quickly. Recommend the cheesy garlic bread. Highly recommend this establishment."

The awards have been running for more than a decade and showcase a wide range of kebabs from across the UK, with some made from "time-honoured traditional recipes" whilst others offer a more "cutting-edge innovative" approach to the tasty meal. The 2024 event took place on Tuesday, February 27 at the Park Plaza Hotel, Waterloo, and was attended by the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
