Millions of universal credit claimants are set to see changes to their usual benefit payments next month. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced the changes in May for those claiming certain benefits.

There will be two bank holidays on May 6 and May 27 which means the DWP will not be sending out usual payments on those days. Jobcentre offices and helplines will also be shut on these dates.

The bank holidays mean anyone receiving universal credit or other benefits on those dates will, in most cases, receive their money earlier. When will benefits be paid over the bank holiday?

Because of the bank holidays, if you are due to receive benefits on Monday, May 6, you will receive your money on Friday, May 3 instead. If you are due to get your benefits on Monday, May 27, you'll be paid on Friday, May 24 instead.

If you get your benefits on a different day it will arrive in your account as normal and the amount you are due to be paid will remain the same. You don't have to do anything to get your money on these different dates over the bank holidays, as it will be done automatically.
