Eden Hazard has reunited with the ball boy he kicked 11 years on from the bizarre incident which made worldwide headlines. The 33-year-old, now retired, who was widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, was playing for Chelsea on January 23, 2013, when he was sent off in the League Cup semi-final second leg against Swansea City at what was then known as the Liberty Stadium for kicking a ball out from underneath a ball boy.
The Swans were 2-0 up from the previous leg and, with time running out, a frustrated Hazard had attempted to dislodge the ball from beneath Charlie Morgan who he felt was holding onto the ball too long. The Swans went on to win the competition that year and the story has become something of legend.
In 2016 Charlie, together with his friend Jackson Quinn, launched drinks brand Au Vodka and have achieved global success. We reported in 2022 how it was recognised as the most popular vodka brand on the internet and how both men had entered The Times Young Rich List worth an estimated £40m each. Now it seems Hazard and Charlie have buried the hatchet over a glass of the drink. Hazard, who went on to play for Real Madrid after he left Chelsea, wrote on social media website X: "A nice thing about retirement is catching up with old friends. You have come a long in way in 11 years my friend."
More photos posted on Instagram show the pair playing golf together and making their way around the course in a golden golf buggy with Au Vodka's logo emblazoned on it. Another shows Hazard has clearly given his seal of approval to the drink, pointing towards the bottle with his arm around the shoulder of Charlie.
