No matter where you travel to in Wales, you can always rely on one thing - you'll find a Wetherspoons to go and have a meal and a few drinks if you look hard enough. Many go out of their way to seek out the local 'Spoons - knowing they can rely on its affordable prices and know what they're getting.

Or do they? If TripAdvisor is anything to go by, there's a fair few differences between J D Wetherspoon restaurants, depending on where you visit. Whilst you can expect to find a fair bit of standardisation across the pub chain's branches, with menus, drinks and prices largely the same wherever you are in the country, it seems there's a distinct difference over some important factors - the food itself, service, value, and atmosphere.

We've compared the ratings given to each of the restaurants across Wales, and found some similar themes in the comments left by users. Many appreciate they are based in old restored buildings that used to be home to churches, cinemas, theatres and more, giving them some unique and interesting features. With an overall rating of just 2.5, the Sirhowy in Blackwood is - according to TripAdvisor - officially the worst Wetherspoons pub in Wales.

That title may be a little harsh - some of the 32 customers who left 'Excellent' reviews describe it as a "lovely venue to take children", with bar staff deemed "friendly and welcoming".

However, more than twice that number have left 'Terrible' reviews, and torn into what they said was "bad food", "dirty tables" and the "disgusting attitude" of some staff. One customer went so far as to say they had "the worst meal ever" at the Sirhowy, adding that they "should have stayed in".
