The second episode of documentary series ‘TikTok: Murder Gone Viral’ is being shown again on ITV2 tonight (April 15). The episode remembers Sania Khan, a 29-year-old Pakistani-American woman who was killed by her estranged husband.

A description of the episode reads: "After surviving an attempt on her life, TikTok star Sania Khan went viral campaigning for South Asian women’s rights. Little did she realise this would put her in mortal danger from her ex-husband."

Khan was becoming well-known on social media for sharing her experiences of separating from her husband Raheel Ahmed, 36. The 29-year-old herself was a child of divorce and had “witnessed first-hand the stigma some South Asian communities attach to women who leave their marriages.” At the time of her death, Khan had built up a community of more than 20,000 people on TikTok.

Khan had married Ahmad, in June 2021 after five years of dating. Having hailed originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, the TikToker moved to Chicago, Illinois, to live with her husband.

A childhood friend of Khan told the BBC that the marriage came to a head just a few months later in December 2021, when the new bride said her husband had a “mental health crisis and she felt unsafe”. The bride’s friends claimed Ahmad had long-standing mental health issues.

A hearing for Khan and Ahmad's divorce was finalised in August 2022. Following their break-up, Khan, who had a passion for photography, filed a restraining order and changed the locks on her doors, friends told the BBC. Her husband had moved states, while she stayed in Chicago.

In July 2022, Khan was due to leave for a new start in her hometown in Tennessee. Ahmad had travelled over 700 miles to Khan’s residence in an attempt to reconcile. She was killed by a gunshot to the back of the head.

What happened to Sania Khan’s husband?

Ahmad was found by police at Khan’s residence in Chicago, after they were sent to do a welfare check. His family had reported him missing to Alpharetta police, who in turn contacted the Chicago police force.

Ahmad was discovered by police with a handgun, a suicide note, and a head wound. He was then taken to hospital for treatment, but was ultimately pronounced dead.

When does TikTok: Murder Gone Viral air?

The second episode surrounding Sania Khan’s murder airs tonight (April 15) at 9pm on ITV. The entire three-part docuseries is available to watch on ITVX.

The first episode in the series looks at TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari and her mother Ansreen. Together, they killed two 21-year-olds in Leicestershire to prevent one revealing he’d been having a secret affair with 45-year-old Ansreen.

A synopsis for the third episode reads: "To her followers, Houston influencer Alexis Sharkey had it all. She was living her best life, and sharing it each day on TikTok, but her social media posts hid a dark secret."
