Hollywood star Michael Douglas has opened up about living in an 'empty nest' with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. The couple's two children - Dylan and Carys - have now both left home.

Michael shared his marriage update when he appeared in a video with presenter Ross King on ITV's Lorraine on Friday, April 12. Ross asked Michael how he’s feeling about their children having left home and the actor revealed he and Catherine are running out of things to say to each other. “Mixed feelings on that. We keep looking at each other going, ‘What else are we going to talk about?’" Michael explained.

He also shared how Swansea-born Catherine won him over when they first met - not with her Oscar-winner acting skills or glittering Welsh personality, but with her love of golf. Michael told Ross: “Catherine loves golf. That was kind of the closer, when we first got together, things were looking good, I said, ‘What do you think of golf?’ And she said, ‘I love it.’ And I said, ‘You do? This is too good to be true.’ She plays good.”

Michael was appearing on the ITV morning show to talk about his new Apple TV series Franklin in which he plays US Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin opposite a wealth of UK talent like Eddie Marsan and Daniel Mays. On wearing period drama attire for his role, Ross joked to Michael that he looked “lovely in tights' and Michael said: “This is why it’s my first period show. My legs are so skinny. I’m glad Franklin had a different dress in the French court, so I kept everything at least a calf length. I didn’t want to scare anybody away.”

Michael and Catherine married on November 18, 2000, and had been dating since March, 1999. They have two children together, Dylan Michael, who was born on August 8, 2000, and Carys Zeta who was born on April 20, 2003.

The couple announced in 2013 they were taking time apart to work on and evaluate their marriage, but it was only temporary and they were back together again before the end of the year.
