Well known for its medieval castle and its cheese, Caerphilly borough is a wonderful destination for a day visit, short break or longer.
You could shake off the winter blues and put a spring in your step with a visit and enjoy not just its attractions such as the castle, Cwmcarn Forest and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, but one of its wonderful events.
Only a short trip from Cardiff and easy to reach by road or rail, you can find the historic market town of Caerphilly itself, along with the towns of Ystrad Mynach, Blackwood and Bargoed.
A programme of events is planned throughout 2024 and includes fun family activities in all these towns. You could even stay the night - there is everything from quaint B&Bs and cottages to luxurious hotels.
Take your pick from the spring line up -
Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair
The town will come to life with more than 35 stalls offering food, drink, gifts and more on March 23 from 9am until 5pm at the annual spring fair offering the perfect family outing.
Bedwlwyn Road and Oakfield Street, where the event takes place, will be closed to vehicles making it a safe and fun place to explore.
Alongside the stalls, which also includes local groups and slime making workshops there will be a selection of children’s fun fair rides and entertainment.
While in Ystrad Mynach town, you can also take time to visit its lovely selection of independent stores, cafes and restaurants.
Blackwood Spring Fair
Families will love the petting farm, funfair rides, children’s workshops, street theatre and birds of prey on display at the fair on April 13.
Running from 9am until 5pm in High Street, the event also features a whole host of food and craft stalls - offering something for everyone.
If previous years are anything to go by, thousands are expected to visit in 2024 to enjoy the fun-filled family day out. The road will be pedestrianised for the day.
Bargoed May Fair
The event takes place on May 4 from 9am until 5pm and features a range of stalls populated with incredible small businesses, exciting entertainment and fantastic funfair rides.
The fair promises to give Bargoed a big bloomin’ boost! Head along for a day of fun-filled festivities and an opportunity to support the town, the high street and local businesses.
The town centre has a lovely selection of independent stores and offers a variety of cafes and restaurants to enjoy while you are there.
Caerphilly Food & Drink Festival
The last of four spring events in Caerphilly County Borough,the annual festival takes place on April 27 from 9am until 5pm in Cardiff Road, Twyn Road, Castle Street and Twyn Car Park.
More than 70 stall holders will be tempting visitors with delicious aromas, sizzling sounds and mouth-watering produce, tasters and cookery demonstrations.
Bursting with culinary delights and complemented by the ever-popular monthly Artisan Market, Castle Court Shopping Centre Craft & Food Market and the Cenotaph Craft Fair by Crafty Legs will also boost the overall stall number to more than 130 different traders.
Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k
The town is expected to see 2,500 runners from across the country take part in either the 10k or the shorter 2k races which take place in Caerphilly on May 12.
Set in the shadow of the spectacular Caerphilly Castle, both races will start and finish on Crescent Road and go via iconic landmarks including the giant cheese sculpture and Tommy Cooper statue along the way.
Many elite and competitive entrants are expected to try and take on the record for 2024.
